Cllr Alex Vickers Joins Civic and Community Leaders in Support of Kiswat Al Kaaba Exhibition Huddersfield , Saturday 17th May 2025 — The powerful legacy of Islamic heritage took centre stage at a landmark exhibition of the Kiswat Al Kaaba, held on 17th May 2025 — with Cllr Alex Vickers standing proudly among community leaders and dignitaries in a show of unity, cultural appreciation, and civic support Hosted in Huddersfield, the exhibition featured sacred artefacts including the Kiswah (the cloth that covers the Kaaba in Makkah), drawing visitors from across the region. Cllr Vickers spent time engaging with the Kiswat Al Kaaba team, gaining a deeper understanding of the artefacts’ historical and spiritual significance, and the exhibition's broader vision — the establishment of a Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery
Cllr Vickers praised the initiative’s commitment to community empowerment, cultural education, and interfaith dialogue, calling it “an inspiring and essential project” that can bring communities together across cultural and religious lines "This exhibition is not just about faith — it's about identity, understanding, and building stronger, more connected communities," she noted Joining her at the event were fellow civic and community leaders, including Cllr Imran Safdar, Dr Sofia Buncy MBE DL, Rashad Bokhari (CEO of the Council for Mosques), and representatives from West Yorkshire Police — PC Khalid and PC Nick — all united in recognising the exhibition’s potential to educate and inspire across generations With cross-sector support now growing, the vision for a permanent Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery — a hub of sacred artefacts, heritage education, and cultural exchange — is gaining momentum. The presence of leaders like Cllr Alex Vickers underscores just how vital this mission is to shaping inclusive, empowered communities of the future
