Saturday, 26th April, Batley Town Hall hosted a remarkable Kiswa exhibition, featuring a unique collection of rare and historic Islamic artefacts. The event attracted record-breaking attendance and was proudly hosted by Councillor Habiban Zaman, Councillor Yusra Hussain, and Councillor Adam Zaman. Below are some kind words shared with us by Councillor Habiban Zaman in reflection on the day.
Some kind words from Yusra Hussain:
"I want to take a moment to personally thank you for everything you have done to bring the Kiswat al-Kaaba Exhibition to Kirklees – first to Batley, and now to Dewsbury''
Your dedication, professionalism, and care in curating and sharing these remarkable artefacts – from the rare Ottoman Kaaba Door Cover to the original keys and lanterns from the Two Holy Mosques – has left an unforgettable impression on all who attended. You gave people in our communities an opportunity they may never experience again in their lifetimes – to be so close to sacred history, and to feel spiritually connected through heritage, beauty, and faith.
For me personally, it has been an honour to work alongside you in organising these events and ensuring they reached as many people as possible – from school children and families to faith leaders, civic guests, and members of all backgrounds. Your openness, your humility, and your incredible attention to detail made these exhibitions more than a display – they were an experience.
In Batley, where we first welcomed your team earlier this year, and again in Dewsbury last weekend, I witnessed first-hand the deep emotional and spiritual impact your work had on our residents. You reminded us all of the value of cultural preservation, the importance of interfaith understanding, and the power of unity through shared moments.
Thank you – for trusting us with this responsibility, for working in such close partnership, and for your tireless effort in ensuring the exhibitions ran so smoothly. The legacy you’ve created in Kirklees will be long remembered.
Please know that you will always be welcome here – and that we are incredibly proud to have played a small part in your powerful journey of faith and history".
