Lanarkshire Muslim Welfare Society Hosts Landmark Kiswah Arts and Culture Gallery Exhibition

Lanarkshire Muslim Welfare Society proudly hosted the Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery, welcoming thousands of visitors for a truly historic and spiritually uplifting exhibition that left a lasting impression on the entire community.

Held from 10:30am to 5:00pm, the exhibition attracted an estimated 2,500 attendees over the course of the day. A dedicated morning session for sisters alone welcomed over 1,500 female attendees, followed by a further 1,000 visitors throughout the remainder of the day, demonstrating the immense interest, enthusiasm, and reverence the community holds for the sacred heritage of Islam.

Visitors were deeply mesmerised and emotionally moved by the rare and sacred Kiswah artefacts on display. The exhibition featured extraordinary pieces connected to the Holy Kaaba and Madinah al-Sharifah, including Kaaba door covers, Holy Kaaba keys, Hizam belts, Samadhi, Kandil (lamps) and other priceless historical artefacts. For many in Lanarkshire, this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness such items up close — artefacts that are usually inaccessible to the public.

The event was meticulously curated, with professional curatorial walkthroughs taking place throughout the morning and continuing all day, allowing visitors to engage with the spiritual, historical, and educational significance of each artefact. Every detail of the exhibition reflected excellence, care, and respect for the sacred nature of the collection.

The programme began beautifully with a moving recitation of the Qur’an by Hafiz Yusuf, setting a deeply spiritual tone for the day. The exhibition was further enriched by the presence of respected scholars and speakers, including Sheikh Ilyas and Hafiz Umar, alongside the dedicated Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery team, who worked tirelessly to deliver an experience of the highest standard.

This landmark event would not have been possible without the incredible support of the Mufti Saheb at Lanarkshire Muslim Welfare Society and the community. Volunteers played a vital role in every aspect of the day — from logistics, setup, and coordination, to audio systems, microphones, and live curating support, as well as hospitality and nutrition provided for guests and volunteers alike. Their commitment, professionalism, and sincerity embodied true community spirit.

The exhibition also created valuable networking opportunities, bringing together scholars, community leaders, families, young people, and members of the wider public in an atmosphere of unity, learning, and mutual respect.

A notable highlight of the day was the attendance of Steve Bonner, former Scottish National Party MP for the Coatbridge, Chryston and Bellshill constituency, who honoured the event with his presence and provided a thoughtful testimony, further recognising the cultural and educational significance of the exhibition.

With scholars, dignitaries, and members of the general public all in attendance, the Kiswa Arts and Culture Gallery exhibition in Lanarkshire stood as a remarkable example of faith, heritage, education, and community cohesion. It was not only an exhibition, but a moment of shared reverence and collective pride.

Lanarkshire Muslim Welfare Society’s hosting of this event marks a significant milestone for the region, demonstrating what can be achieved when community, scholarship, and cultural heritage come together. The overwhelming turnout and heartfelt feedback reflect the success of the day and the deep impact it has left on all who attended.

A truly unforgettable event, and a powerful testament to the spiritual and cultural richness of Islam in Lanarkshire.
